The following is a selection of questions frequently asked by our clients
We'd love to. We encourage you to do so during our opening hours!Thank you for making an appointment in advance by filling out our form "request for information or reservation" under the heading "reservations" on our site by giving us already a maximum of information what you are looking for, as well as the data on your animal (race, age, sex, weight, sociability) and the desired dates.
Visits are welcome outside of school vacations and preferably outside of Sundays, these are busy times.
We will take you on a tour of the facilities and see together if our care is what you are looking for for your pet and explain in detail the daily routine and the service that will be required on a case by case basis.
Leaving your pet in the hands of a third person is a matter of trust. On site, you will see that not only do we love animals, but we also have the skills and experience to take responsibility for your little family member!
FAQ cats
At Lassie's, too, cats can go out all day long. They have direct access from the inner room to a fully fenced outdoor terrace. On these verandas the cats can climb the wooden towers or rest in one of the kennels. The outside terraces are covered and give a view to our big garden, full of little birds, and the forest. read more
Of course. We take care of your cat until the end of its life. There is no age limit.
Unfortunately not, male cats must be castrated at 6 months.
Yes, without any worries, you can leave her with us.
Cats don't have a sense of time like we do. In the cattery, after 2-3 days of adaptation, she will behave like at home and will alternate her day between naps, meals, games and walks on the terrace as at home.
Back home, she will walk around her property and ask you for lots of cuddles. Most cats are very close to their owners in the days following their boarding stay, others behave as if they had never left. Rarely do they "sulk" for a day or two, but never for very long.
If your little cat is the type to hide when you have a visitor, she will also be shy at first in boarding. She will choose one of the kennels to hide in. From there, she will observe. She will see that her roommates are comfortable, that they eat, that they go outside, that they get lots of cuddles from our assistants.
After two or three days they will have made new friends and will also exploit the surroundings, eat their meals well and come to seek our caresses in their turn.
- Feline typhus or feline infectious panleukopenia
- Feline coryza, feline influenza or feline viral rhinotracheitis
- Feline leukemia, FeLV
Attention: We have many customers who come from outside Luxembourg. You should know that according to the European law, any dog or cat crossing the border of its country of residence, is subject to the following rules:
- Identification with a chip or a tattoo well readable and registered
To be in possession of a European passport (it is blue in color)
Valid rabies vaccination
If you regularly (every 3-4 months) deworm your cat as directed by your veterinarian, there is no need to give an extra dose before boarding.
Yes, to protect her and the other cats in boarding. We recommend the Seresto collar for its excellent efficiency, on sale at your veterinarian's office and at Lassie's reception area.
Of course, any other antiparasitic treatment is also allowed.
No. Outside the family home, the cat is on what is called "neutral territory".
If the territory is neutral, the cat has no reason to fight. The cat will live together in harmony and will socialize. You will be surprised to see your usually unsociable cat behaving without aggression with cats it does not know.
During large arrivals for the beginning of the school vacations for example, you may see one or the other a little nervous, it is only the excitement of the newcomers and the coming and going, everyone calms down quickly during the evening.
If it turns out that your cat does have dominance problems with other cats, which is very, very rare, and that he thinks that the whole boarding facility is an extension of his territory, we can unfortunately no longer accept him during school vacations, but only during non-vacation periods and reserve a room for him alone.
The cat, when she changes environment, does not try to reproduce the habits she had at home. On the contrary, she sets the counters to zero. So in boarding, she knows the outside world and knows that she can go there and nothing will stop her.
But back at home, she doesn't have the same reference points and will take on her old habits, of which the outside is not a part.
But no! The cats have quickly figured out that the dogs are in their own section and that they can't enter the cats' space. The cats always sit on the windowsills and watch the little dogs come and go in their rooms.
Most of these dogs in their building are very little weights. The Chihuahua or Yorkie, for example, with its 1.2 to 2 kilos, is tiny compared to a cat, so the cats are really not impressed!
Rather, as soon as the dogs bark, they come quickly to see what is happening near their window, they are too curious.
- We never ever prepare the cats in their transport box for departure, a cat does not appreciate being locked in a box for hours...
- We know your cat.
- The cats are provided with a collar and their little name, in any case all those who do not mind, this especially for black cats and tabby cats, which often look very similar.
- You accompany us to the cat's room and, with our help, you can put your cat in the carrier yourself.

Unfortunately we cannot admit new clients with the following breeds:
German Terrier
Hungarian pointer (Vizsla)
German Pointer
Weimar pointer
We love these breeds and yes, at home they are the most well behaved. They are indeed very beautiful and intelligent dogs. However, in our long experience, we have noticed that in kennels, they tend to bark a lot, contrary to what they do at home.
In order to keep the buildings quiet and to protect our old dogs, we have decided not to accept any new clients of these few breeds of dogs. Thank you for your understanding.
A minimum!
Obligatory: the vaccination passport
His food : only if he is on a special diet
His medication: if he is under continuous treatment
Optional: one blanket, pillow or bath towel
Optional: one toy or stuffed animal
We have everything your dog needs, plastic beds, pillows, blankets, toys.
All items dropped off have no guarantee of return! Dogs play, carry their stuff outside in the playground and have fun making big clouds of flakes during lunch break. So it would be a shame to bring them a brand new cushion.
We will prepare your belongings for your return after washing and drying them. During the stay, we may also have to put things in the washing machine a few times, depending on the weather conditions and the wet paws of the dogs when they come back from the play area, so if the cushion, blanket or towel has a name on the label, it makes our job easier.
If you regularly (every 3-4 months) deworm your dog as directed by your veterinarian, there is no need to give an extra dose before boarding.
Yes, to protect him and the other dogs in boarding. We recommend the Seresto collar for its excellent efficiency, available at your veterinarian and at Lassie's reception area.
Of course, any other antiparasitic treatment is also allowed.
For the protection of your pet, we require that all cats and dogs have their vaccination records up to date. The vaccination card must be presented and left at the reception desk.
The mandatory vaccinations for dogs are
- Rabies
- The diseases of the dog DHLPP
- Kennel cough: Pneumodog vaccine only
Please note: As of January 1, 2023, only the injectable vaccine "Pneumodog" (Boehringer Ingelheim) will be accepted as a vaccine or booster against kennel cough. Please inform your veterinarian before your first vaccination or annual booster.
!!!!! All dogs arriving with an intra-nasal or oral vaccine, administered after January 1, 2023, will be refused upon arrival !!!!
Of course, all nasal or oral kennel cough vaccines administered BEFORE this date are accepted and valid for one year.
Attention: We have many customers who come from outside Luxembourg. You should know that according to the European law, any dog or cat crossing the border of its country of residence, is subject to the following rules:
- Identification with a chip or a tattoo (well readable) and registered
- To be in possession of a European passport (it is blue in color)
- Valid rabies vaccination
Kennel cough is an infectious tracheobronchitis, a contagious respiratory disease in dogs. It is unfortunately common in the canine population worldwide. It is carried by certain viruses and bacteria.
This is why most kennels require the "PNEUMODOG" or intra-nasal vaccination before boarding the dog.
No, we can only ensure your dog's safety within the confines of the property of the boarding kennel and our 5 hectares, where we can control all factors.
Of course! We're not going to ask you to cancel your vacation at the last minute because your female dog went into heat.
No. Your dog is with us to have a good time while you are on vacation. His things with the smell of his home serve to make him feel at home with us as soon as possible.
If he starts to play with his girlfriend and together they have fun making holes in their cushions, blankets or toys, this is unfortunately a normal canine behavior.
This does not entitle you to a refund or an exchange, otherwise the boarding company would be forced to increase its daily rates considerably.
Yes, we recommend preparing meals in freezable bags, one for the morning and one for the evening. We do not charge extra for refrigeration and freezing of portions for the duration of the stay.
However, we do not accept horse meat.
No. Our daily rate includes food distributed over two meals during the day.
If your dog is on a special diet, veterinary, allergenic or if you simply prefer that he does not change his diet during his stay, you can bring back his dry food and/or his wet food, but this does not entitle you to a reduction of the rate.
No, don't worry. You will set him up in his kennel or room yourself, which is where he will be waiting for your return. A dog that comes from a shelter already knows the situation of being in a place with other dogs, the smells, the coming and going. He quickly finds his marks.
The situation is more difficult for a dog who has never been out of his cocoon at home. He has to learn more new things in one go than a former shelter dog.
For this reason, we advise to entrust a puppy to us from his youngest age, either in CaniCrèche, or in boarding for short stays, to make him know this new world in the game, in softness and in confidence.
You have several possibilities:
- On the reservation request form
- By e-mail before or during your stay
- By phone before or during your stay
In case of extension of your stay, do not forget to inform us the day before, if you have reserved a bath.
FAQ general
First of all, you must come with your pet to the reception area. There we will complete the formalities and check your vaccination record, which we will keep until your return. It is very important to us that you accompany us into the building with your pet. One of our assistants will be with you to install your dog, cat, rabbit in one of the rooms or in a kennel. Also, for the return trip, you will be welcome to accompany us to pick up your pet inside.
Get to know the Lassie staff, who will take care of your pet. Tell them everything that is special about your pet. If there have been any medical concerns lately, they will take special care of them.
No, absolutely not. If we are closed to the public on Wednesdays, it means that we have even more time to be with your and our animals! It is only the reception area that is closed, but the care of the animals, the activities, the cleaning, the distribution of meals, everything is identical to the other 6 days of the week.
Apart from the summer vacations, therefore between mid-July and mid-September, you can drop off and pick up your animal every Wednesday at noon at the reception of the boarding kennel on appointment.
We are present at the Lassie boarding kennel day and night, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Of course. This has always been our spontaneous answer for the last 20 years...
But honestly..., in the last few years, the amount of daily phone and email inquiries has literally exploded!
With a minimum of trust, if you have been coming to the Lassie's for many years, there is no need to call us every day to find out how your pet is doing. Your children will understand this, if you explain it to them. Remember that your multiple calls and emails asking for news take away a lot of time and energy that your pet would normally be entitled to.
You are on vacation, enjoy every second of your family, your friends, the beautiful place you are in and put your cell phone aside.
We will take care of your pet as if it were one of ours, it will play, eat, sleep, find new friends, it is in good hands!
Find a real person you can trust! Leaving him alone at home or leaving him with someone you know exposes him to the risk of running away and "improvised guardians" do not always have good reflexes when faced with problems that could arise during your absence (health, behavior).
Don't forget that these guardians also decide to go on vacation and you often find yourself without a last minute solution. This is a phenomenon that we see constantly!!! The owners of the dog are in total panic, the plane leaves the next day and the person who had offered to keep the dog is no longer available... Unfortunately we cannot help you out when we are full during school vacations.
The risk of running away is not negligible in case of a private dog sitter. What will happen if your dog in winter sneaks between the legs of the guard in a private house, when someone comes to ring the bell, and runs away? If he is not found and has to stay outside at -10 degrees in winter for nights on end, or if he ventures out onto the road or rails. This is also a phenomenon we see regularly!
Don't forget that if you entrust your house or apartment key to a third party, you are still responsible to your neighbors for any disturbance caused. Furthermore, if damage has been caused to your pet or your property by this person, it will be difficult to engage the responsibility of this person.
We have witnessed some terrible situations in the last 20 years, so only entrust your dog and your key to someone you really trust!
Yes, for periods apart from school vacations, you can book at any time, even on the same day.
For school vacations, we advise you to book as soon as possible, as places are limited. Your place will be confirmed or not as soon as we receive your request and according to availability and will be definitively blocked after reception of your deposit.
No. We are not at the fair... our prices are fixed.
Our prices are the same as those of a classic boarding service, even though we offer a completely different standard of accommodation, the care provided by veterinary assistants, our presence on site day and night, as well as the presence of a veterinary doctor on site.
We do not haggle with our suppliers, service providers, government agencies, our local government and our employees.
However, we respect and appreciate their presence, the quality of their services and their goods. If we have accepted their services, we have also accepted their conditions and prices in advance.
Our rates are fixed and are publicly displayed and upon request you can inquire about the total amount of the stay before making a reservation.
The Lassie boarding kennel is a 100% private facility, not semi-public or subsidized as many people mistakenly assume.
Unfortunately not. For the well-being of the animals in our care and in order to guarantee a very organized and regular daily routine, all arrivals and departures are only done during our opening hours.
For school vacations, you must always reserve in advance for dogs and cats. We offer the waiting list if we are full.
Being on the waiting list does not guarantee a place, but as soon as we have a cancellation for a dog or cat, we will contact the next person on the waiting list with the cat or dog that can replace the one that has just cancelled.
Even at the last minute, don't hesitate to contact us, sometimes we have late minute cancelations or date changes and spots open up again.
The payment of an advance on the price of the stay serves to block and confirm the stay of your pet, this allows us to guarantee a place for your dog or cat. It is necessary to pay this advance on time in order to guarantee your pet's stay during the school vacations, when demand is high and places in our establishment are limited. As soon as the deposit is paid, the contract is definitively formed and you are assured that a place is reserved for your pet.
The payment of this advance can be made by bank transfer, cash or card. This amount will be deducted from the total bill at the end of the stay.
You are free to cancel your reservation at any time, but in this case, the advance payment will be lost if it is made less than 90 days before the beginning of the stay.
The advance is not refunded unless you cancel at least 90 days before the start of your stay.
Advances are not transferable to another reservation.
There is no cancellation fee for bookings outside of school vacations.
For all reservations made outside of school vacations, there is no advance payment.
The price is based on the total number of days spent at the boarding kennel. Arrivals and departures are always in the afternoon during our opening hours.
The day of arrival and the day of departure are counted as normal days.
So if for example your dog arrives on Friday between 16.00 and 19.00 hours and leaves on Sunday between 17.00 and 19.00 hours, then 3 days are counted, and not only 2 nights.
The price includes everything, the place in the kennel or in the room, the food in two meals per day, the administration of medicines if necessary, the 3 activities int the morning, afternoon and evening in one of the exercise areas, the heating, the bedding, the litter, the games and the cuddles.
There are no extras, except if the bath is requested for the day of departure or if your pet needs specific veterinary supervision or treatment.
The balance of the bill is paid upon arrival (which more and more clients prefer to do) or must be paid when you pick up your pet. You can pay by bank card or in cash.
The story of the boarding kennel "Lassie"
It is thanks to the help of my parents that this dream could be realized. With a lot of enthusiasm, patience and endurance they actively supported the planning, realization and construction of this huge project.
The Déierepensioun Lassie has become the largest boarding kennel in Luxembourg and the surrounding area, with clients of all nationalities from all over the world!
Twenty years of Lassie... we have seen your children grow up and you ours! We've had many good times together, you've told us about your adventures and travels, anecdotes from your work and business trips, the soccer games and concerts you've been to. We have indirectly participated in your most important family celebrations, births, birthdays, weddings, communions. Beautiful friendships have been created.
We have also experienced very sad moments with you, the long illness or the loss of a loved one. We have suffered with you when you left for chemotherapy or heavy surgery in the hospital. We listened to you when you had worries, as well as you participated in our worries too.
We cried with you when you lost your four-legged darling, whom we also adored.
We were sad when you had to leave Luxembourg to move somewhere else, we miss the presence of your pet!
Thank you to all those who keep in touch and send us news.
Lassie has always been open and functional since the beginning of the containment. We have taken advantage of the time to make the place even more beautiful and to be able to offer additional services to our customers.
The pandemic has changed a lot in the minds of all those who work as freelancers and after this crisis nothing will be the same as before.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, many of you have called us, emailed us to see how we were doing and many of you have paid entire bills for multiple stays, which you were not able to do because of the restrictions.
The support from our customers is tremendous and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
We all live here body and soul for Lassie... this is our big paradise in a complicated world.
99% of our clients are lovely. It is to that other 1% that I would like to address this message, which is very close to my heart!
Life is too short to argue... sometimes when I hear new clients talking to my assistants, I am deeply shocked. They are all incredibly kind and dedicated, and certainly don't deserve that tone.
We no longer want or accept customers who tell us that we have to put up with everything, because the customer is king.
With us it is your darling who is king. Our duty is to take good care of him with love and conscience.
If we take responsibility for your darling, we must have confidence in you, as you have confidence in us. We are dealing with living beings and we must be able to talk about his well-being at all times in an open, kind and reasonable manner.
In our peaceful haven, we invite you to be part of our big Lassie family. You can count on our utmost dedication to make sure your pet has the best vacation ever!
