7. What do you mean by kennel cough?

Kennel cough is an Infectious Trachea-bronchitis, a contagious respiratory disease of dogs. Unfortunately it is common in the dog population worldwide.

The most common sign of the sickness, which is either caused by certain viruses or bacteria, is a dry hacking cough. It sounds as if the dog has something lodged in his throat.
Treatment consists of antibiotics and medication to reduce inflammation and to suppress the cough.
The disease is aerosolised by coughing, which means spread by coughed droplets in the air, and a dog can become exposed from germs spread by a dog in some distance away.
Also many dogs carry some of these viruses or bacteria normally in their respiratory tract and become ill from Canine Cough during periods of stress.
The vaccination is not a 100% guarantee against getting Canine Cough, as it can be caused by several different viruses and bacteria; only a few it is possible to vaccinate against. Your dog's regular yearly vaccination only protects against two of the viruses that can cause the Cough. But it does not contain protection against Bordetella bronchiseptica, which is the most threatening of the infectious agents; this is the reason why most Boarding Kennels require "PNEUMODOG" or "INTRAC" vaccination prior to boarding.

8. Are reservations required?

Yes! Especially for school vacations it is best to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
